Photo Exhibition: Sylvan Lake Photo Walk

Throughout April-June 2020, we hosted a virtual photo exhibit, highlighting the Best of Sylvan Lake Photo Walk (linked below). Participants were invited to share photos of what Sylvan Lake looked like to them; the birds migrating, hints of green as the winter snow melted away, family activities, or beloved pets being silly. We encouraged those who were healthy and able to go for a walk - while engaging in physical and social distancing - to share photos of their surroundings, whether that be the view from their deck, or what the Christmas lights around them looked like. The possibilities were endless. Participants were encouraged to post to their own social media with the hashtag #SylvanLakePhotoWalk, while they could also submit their photos via email for our weekly spotlight.

Now that we have resumed our regular hours of operation, and in celebration of Alberta Culture Days, we are hosting a selection of these photos in the library. Stop by and view the exhibit in person, or if you aren't able to make it to the library, view our Virtual Exhibit, accompanied by descriptions of each photo from the photographers themselves.

From September 16-October 1st, 2020, thanks to the generous donations from our photographers, most of the photos will be available for auction. Stop by to place your bid in a silent auction, and then watch our social media on Wednesday September 23rd and 30th, for updates on the current highest bids. Bidding will close at 8:00 pm on October 1st, 2020, and the winning bidders will be contacted on October 2nd, 2020.

Best of Sylvan Lake Photo Walk

Stay connected with each other and help our homebound and self-isolating community members see the world around them without having to leave the security of their own homes. While our weekly spotlight has ended, we encourage Sylvan Lakers to continue to photograph the world around them with the #SylvanLakePhotoWalk hashtag.

Stay safe, stay active, and we will get through this period of social distancing together. Let’s keep connected with each other via a beautiful artistic medium: photography.
